How to Use Hydrogen Peroxide to Treat Acne

How to Use Hydrogen Peroxide to Treat Acne

Although I prefer to address the "cause" of acne and provide real solutions to acne problem, there will be times when its difficult to follow an effective anti-acne diet or your hormones are out of whack and your skin has suffered for it. During these times, please think twice before rushing to pay a king (or queen) ransom on expensive topical treatments which can take weeks to show an improvement on your skin. Worse still, many of these products can dry out your skin, cause skin sensitivity, and redness.

During these times, reach out for the humble hydrogen peroxide. Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is a common health care product that has been used for years in homes and hospitals as an antiseptic. The 3% solution is cheap and efficient, and you may already have some in your medicine cabinet. The good - no great - news is that this humble beast of burden can combat the symptoms of acne.

The best bit is this acne treatment does not contain harsh ingredients such as benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid and sulfur - which, by the way, won the award for worse smell on the market for treatment of acne.

So why does it work?

Hydrogen peroxide works to clear acne by killing the bacteria on the skin that causes acne and oxygenating the pores, which helps prevent future pimples by promoting an aerobic ("with oxygen") environment on the skin, in which bacteria can not live. If you kill existing bacteria on the skin and prevent new bacteria forming, you will succeed in eliminating your acne problem.

A word of caution for those who believe that if a lower formula is good, then a stronger formula is naturally better, please do NOT use H2O2 solutions above 10%, or - its caustic and can actually burn skin!

Used in this manner its very effective in killing bacteria that leads to inflammation, so that the body can begin to cure acne on his own. However, it is intended to be used as an emergency measure after a breakout. Other natural measures, including changes in diet, adequate sun exposure (I know - it's contrary to what you have been told for years), and strengthening your immune system are much more effective in healing existing acne, but ion future breakouts as well. Note: Hydrogen peroxide is the whitening formula used by many "self-service cosmetologists"  to lighten their hair / go blonde. A really unusual shade of orange usually results unless the user is already a real blonde. The moral of this lesson is to not use hydrogen peroxide on and around your hair and eyebrows, unless you really like your hair that shade of orange.

Good quality H2O2

It is important to use good quality hydrogen peroxide on your skin. H2O2 you buy at the drug store is of inferior quality, so do not use it on your face. If you click here you can obtain the real thing.
