How To Get Rid of White Smelly Foot Toe Fungus Between Toes Including Home Remedies

White foot fungus between toes

If you have a white foot fungus between the toes it’s highly likely to be caused by athlete's foot.

It is often referred to as athlete's foot disease.  This disease is often found in athletes because it is easily caught by walking barefoot in sports locker rooms, communal showers or edges of pools.

It can also develop simply because of the moisture in our own shoes or trainers.

It would be too simplistic to attach athlete's foot disease only to the sportsmen and women

Fungus between the toes and itchiness

Athlete’s foot causes fungus between the toes and itchiness.  The disease is highly contagious and it often spreads when our feet if they are locked in wet, sweaty and moist shoes.  The feet produce a lot of sweat, up to 15 grams per hour!

Athlete’s foot usually starts with itching between the toes - and often first among small toes.

This is actually a dermatomycosis, that is to say, a skin colonization by fungi.

Apart from itching between the toes, the other symptoms of athlete's foot are:

• Unpleasant odour between the toes;

• Reddening, small blisters, dead and peeling skin (small whitish skin) between the toes;

• In the absence of treatment, the skin may crack and painful cracks may form.

 If this crack becomes infected, it can cause a more serious infection;

• When the nails are affected, they grow more slowly thicken, change colour (turn white, black or yellow) and break or crumble more easily;

• During an acute attack, blisters located on and around the arch of the foot can occur.

Summary so far

Fungus localized between some toes that spreads rapidly to neighbouring toes, but also above and below the foot (itchy red patches) and nails which can become brittle.

How white foot fungus between toes (athlete’s foot) can spread

Warm and moist environments favour the development of fungus and therefore mycoses. Thus, excessive sweating in enclosed, poorly ventilated shoes can be the cause of athlete's foot.

Furthermore, the disease is highly contagious and can be transmitted easily get if you walk barefoot in damp places or if you borrow (or lend) your shoes, socks or towels.

 Here are some tips to avoid infection:

• The floors of rooms and showers are an excellent contamination areas.  Similarly pools, saunas and beach areas.

 In short all the places where you walk barefoot.

 In these ‘at risk’ places, it’s a good idea to wear sandals.

• At the pool as well, it is imperative to go through the footbath before and after.

• Avoid the exchange of shoes, towels and socks with others.

• Do not wear closed shoes without socks, and if possible, open shoes are better because they allow for an air flow.

 No rubber soles.

 As soon as possible, ventilate your feet by removing your shoes.

 If your feet tend to sweat, avoid wearing the same shoes on consecutive days in order to let them dry.

• Wear cotton made socks.

 Replace them every day, and more if necessary (physical activity).

• Take care of your feet.  After bathing or showering, dry them thoroughly.  Not to mention the gap between the toes.

It’s best to have a special little towel for your feet.

 In all cases, change your towel regularly.

• Wash tiles, shower and bath with a bleach solution.

• Wash or change the drying mat in your bathroom frequently if you have one.

• After the first infection, continue to sprinkle antifungal powders in your shoes and socks.

What to do if you suspect you have athlete's foot?

The first thing to do is show your feet to your doctor.  The treatment of athlete's foot is quite simple but must be done quickly, before the fungi can spread.

There are anti-fungal ointments (drug prescribed to treat infections caused by fungi) sold in pharmacies or prescription.  These ointments are effective, if there are no complications (bacterial infection).  Otherwise, the doctor may prescribe an antifungal tablets and even an antibiotic.

Make sure you follow the instructions for treatment and you will quickly see an improvement.  Athletes foot is notorious for reoccurring and can be quick difficult to permanently resolve.  If so, all treatment must be started again

If you have ever had an athlete's foot, be very careful about the future health of your feet and do not repeat the same mistakes!

Tip: if you have athlete's foot and more generally a fungal infection, do not scratch the sensitive areas because your fingernails may then spread the infection to other parts of the body.

Herbal home remedies for athlete’s foot

Bath with baking soda

Baking soda is great for treating athlete's foot.  Simply dilute 4 tablespoons of baking powder form in 1L of warm water and dip your feet for 15 minutes.  Next, it is important to dry them in order to remove moisture.  It is also advisable to sprinkle the affected skin fungus with baking soda just before putting on socks.  Thus, the powder will absorb moisture throughout the day.

The salt water bath

Salt water is a hostile environment for fungi, because salt prevents the proliferation of fungi.  Dip each day your feet in salt water (about 1 tablespoon of salt per litre of water) will help fight infection.

Many essential oils fight against fungal infections of the feet with their antifungal properties.  The essential oils of the tea tree, lavender and Atlas cedar possess these properties.  Each of these oils can be mixed with sweet almond oil and can be applied directly to the affected area in the form of a few drops.

The use of essential oils is however not recommended for pregnant women and children, as well as wounds.

Lavender essential oil treatment of athlete’s foot

Mix 1 ml of lavender essential oil and savory essential oil, and 4 millilitres of sweet almond oil or grapeseed.  Then gently mix everything.  Apply a few drops of this mixture to the affected area (skin or nail), three times daily, until the fungus has ceased.  To prevent a recurrence, it is possible to continue treatment once a day.

Lapacho

Let your feet rest for 15 minutes, twice a day, in a lapacho bark bath. (Lapacho is a tree of South America.)  Lapacho marinated in warm water greatly reduces infections such as thrush.  To be effective, this preparation should be in the form of decoction.  (Boil for 8-10 minutes, 15 g to 20 g of dried inner bark of the Lapacho powder in 500 ml of water).

Oral solution against the fungus

Boil in a litre of water, four teaspoons of Lapacho in a litre of water for 5-7 minutes and leave it for 12 minutes.  Honey can be added to improve the taste.  It is recommended to drink three cups a day for the treatment of mycosis.  Used in infusion, Lapacho contributes to boosting the immune system to prevent the appearance of fungal infections.

Ostrich Oil

Ostrich oil also soothes fungal infection.  In addition, it has the advantage of being applied even on cuts, as it acts to accelerate healing
